What Programs are Available?

Hawk Ridge offers education programs suitable for all ages, from preschool to adult.  Programs provide up-close views of hawks or songbirds in the hand, which a lucky student then gets to releaseCheck out our current offerings.

What Do We Need to Bring?

Binoculars can be a valuable tool for some classes, especially high school and older.  Our staff has binoculars for your group to use--just let us know!

Dress for the weather! Weather is always more extreme at the Main Overlook on Hawk Ridge. Cold, wet, miserable participants do not enjoy the programs that you work so hard to make available to them. Of course, it does get sunny & hot on the Ridge, too, so bring some sunscreen & a hat with a brim in case of balmy weather.

If your group is going to do any hiking on the Hawk Ridge trails, hiking boots are essential; at the very least, tennis shoes must be worn. The trails are very rugged.

That's it!

Facilities?

We do not have a building on site at the nature reserve, so all of our activities take place outdoors.

LECTURE AREA: We have a private 60-person lecture area located at the main overlook which has a fantastic view of the migration.  The lecture area is accessible by a gravel path.  Because the lecture area is higher than the main overlook, the gravel path does wind upward.  Seating at the lecture area is wooden benches.

BATHROOM: We have a single portable toilet located 100 yards northeast of the main overlook along the roadway.

Weather?

Weather definitely plays a part in our outdoor activities!  We recommend rescheduling programs in case of inclement weather.  While we can (and do) teach on busses at the main overlook, it is much more satisfying to visit on a nice day where participants can view the migration and possibly see birds in the hand.  Neither of these is available on rainy days.

Availability and Cost?

September & October:  The fee for programs from our current offerings is $4/participant with an $80 minimum.  Custom programs are $4/participant with a $100 minimum.

November to August:  Presentations during the "off season" are also available and can be arranged through the Hawk Ridge education director.  The fee for a 1-hour program is $4/participant with a $100 minimum; $75 for each additional hour.
