Presenter: Jackie Fallon, Midwest Peregrine Society

Peregrine falcons have long fascinated humans.  From the sport of falconry over the past 4000 years to today’s remarkable recovery efforts to return them to the bluffs and cliffs on the Mississippi River and Lake Superior, peregrine falcons can once again be seen on today’s ever changing landscape.  Come and discover how they were able to survive the devastating effects of DDT, and can now flourish in a world of urban sprawl and development.  Their story of success is truly a community effort for endangered species, and one we should be proud of!

Jackie is the Minnesota State Coordinator for peregrine falcons and the Vice-Chair of Field Operations for the Midwest Peregrine Society.  Since 1988, Jackie has been involved with peregrine recovery program, where she had a “one-on-one” with a peregrine falcon named Maverick.  Since then, she has assisted the project with field observations throughout the Midwest, most often in Minnesota and North Dakota.  In 2005, she was asked to assume primary responsibilities for the Minnesota peregrine falcon monitoring, and continues to coordinate all field aspects of peregrine recovery and field work at over 45 nesting territories in the state.  Jackie is currently employed at the Lake Superior Zoo, where she focuses on recovery programs for endangered species.
