Althea (she/her), Naturalist

Growing up on the coast of Maine, Althea has been a naturalist from an early age. Thanks to her family and a local nature school, she developed a deep passion for the natural world. Before earning her BS in environmental science at the University of Southern Maine, she spent time as an environmental educator. In roles ranging from teaching forest kindergarten to leading teen wilderness expeditions through the White Mountains, she always found herself incorporating birds into her lessons. This eventually led her into hands-on ornithology research, where she gained extensive experience mist-netting and banding raptors, waterfowl, and songbirds. While she loves working across species, passerines have became the heart of her career, rooted in a lifelong love for songbirds greatly influenced by her birder grandparents. As a Hawk Ridge Naturalist, Althea is excited to share her passion with others through nature connection and the art of questioning.
