Soren Zappia, Count Apprentice

Soren grew up in neighboring Wisconsin and has loved birds ever since he first looked out his grandmother’s window. He is excited to return to his second season at Hawk Ridge, after spending last fall as a Trainee. This past spring, he was a Raptor Counter at Dinosaur Ridge Bird Observatory in Colorado, and this summer he worked as a tech recovering geolocator tags from songbirds. He also has experience with wildlife education and songbird banding. He loves to lead bird walks and share the joy of birding with everyone, and is fascinated by the magic of migration. He is excited to learn more about hawkwatching and morning flight as a Count Apprentice this fall. When he’s not birding, Soren loves board games, puzzles, and hiking.
